Ryan Murphy’s latest drama, Doctor Odyssey, is a new TV show debuting this fall, featuring medical drama on a luxury cruise ship.
The show, starring Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson, takes viewers deep into the challenges faced by an onboard medical team as they tackle emergencies far from the safety of shore.
The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the high-pressure environment of a cruise ship, where the crew must handle a series of unique medical crises while also navigating their own interpersonal dynamics.
As Max (Jackson), the new doctor onboard, joins a small but dedicated medical team, he is welcomed by Captain Robert Massey (Johnson).
“This ship is heaven. Our mission is to preserve the dream. And that’s why you’re here. Keep these dreamers safe,” Massey said in the trailer.
However, the serene atmosphere soon gives way to tension as the trailer reveals a series of escalating emergencies, including a man collapsing by the pool, a woman convulsing in a hospital bed, and another individual falling off the ship.
The trailer is set to the Beach Boys’ classic “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” with eerie sound cues that underscore the growing sense of unease.
“It’s not a question of when you encounter waves, but what you do when they come up,” Massey ominously warns as the ship battles through a severe storm, with the crew bracing for impact.
The tension peaks with Max urging a rescued passenger to “keep breathing” as the situation becomes increasingly dire.
In addition to its core cast, Doctor Odyssey will feature country music star Shania Twain in a guest-starring role.
Produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television, the series is set to bring a fresh and thrilling take on the medical drama when it premieres on ABC on Thursday Sept. 26.
