Norwegian Cruise Line will add 24 new staterooms to the Norwegian Encore in a drydock scheduled for late this year, matching what it did on a recent drydock for the Norwegian Joy.

In addition are a number of changes to the premium suites in the ship’s Haven, Norwegian’s exclusive ship-within-a-ship concept.

The additional rooms are estimated to be adding $150,000 each in revenue on an annual basis, according to Patrik Dahlgren, executive vice president vessel operations at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, who spoke at the company’s investor day earlier this year.

According to the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is expected to have 170 drydock days in 2024 across its fleet of three brands.

“A cruise ship on a regular basis needs to go into drydock for regulatory inspections and technical upgrades,” he said. “What we did in this example, with the Norwegian Joy, is we looked at areas onboard the ship that were underutilized

“On this particular drydock, we added 24 additional balcony staterooms. That is additional revenue for the vessel. We implemented an additional thermal spa onboard the ship which is especially popular and another revenue-generating item.

“We redesigned the owner’s suite in the Haven area, increasing the revenue for that.

“We also looked at open deck space that was underutilized and then implemented Vibe Beach Club in an expanded format on the Norwegian Joy,” Dahlgren continued.

“We are doing the same across the fleet in every drydock going forward.”

For 2024, he said the company had a target to add an additional 200 guest cabins across the fleet.
