Silversea Cruises has announced a new ancient Roman-inspired wellness programme, Otium, set to launch on its new ship, Silver Dawn, in spring 2022.

The line said it had “taken inspiration from the ancient Roman lifestyle”, with Otium being a period of time dedicated to leisure, in a nod to the line’s Italian heritage.

This comes after the line revealed Silver Dawn’s inaugural season will be spent in the Mediterranean.

The line stated that Otium – which is “built on the principles that wellness should be a natural, enjoyable part of the day” – will be an “elevation of Silversea’s unique take on luxury”.

Silversea Cruises chief commercial officer Barbara Muckermann said: “Silversea has long excelled at enabling guests to travel deeper in luxury.

“While the immersive aspect of our offering is easy to convey, the luxuriousness of our product can often seem intangible: guests really need to see it – live it – to fully appreciate it.

“Otium is unlike any other wellness programme; it aligns perfectly with our brand positioning and will weave a tapestry of unprecedented comfort around our guests.

“It will revolve around instant gratification, extending the luxurious pampering for which Silversea is famous to different areas of the ship, from guests’ suites to the redesigned spa area and beyond.

“Otium will transform the way guests relax and enjoy their personal space. It will be an elevation of our already high levels of comfort.”

The key pillars of Otium will be a sleeping experience, which includes Egyptian cotton linens and Otium-inspired mattress, and a bathing experience, with a walk-in shower, bath, bathrobes, bath salts, candles, music and caviar canapés.

It will also include a balcony experience, with guests able to tailor their experiences according to the weather.

Silver Dawn’s spa has also been redesigned to offer a new treatment menu designed by wellness experts.
