The first trans-Atlantic crossing of the new Norwegian Aqua will arrive in a different port than originally scheduled.
According to a statement issued by Norwegian Cruise Line, the seven-night cruise will now end in New York City instead of Boston.
The arrival in North America was also postponed and is now set to take place three days later than scheduled, on April 7, 2025.
“While we always strive to maintain our original schedule, the safety of our guests and crew remains our top priority. Due to severe weather conditions, we will be altering our scheduled course, delaying our arrival to the United States,” Norwegian Cruise Line said.
According to the letter, which was distributed to guests onboard, the change is related to adverse weather conditions in the North Atlantic.
“Due to these uncontrollable weather conditions expected along the route to Boston, which carry a high degree of uncertainty with no improvement expected, we must adjust our course to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for everyone onboard,” the company continued.
“As a result, we’ll be taking an alternative, more southerly route to ensure a safe crossing. While this adjustment will delay our arrival, it will also provide a smoother sailing experience and offer additional time to enjoy all that our brand-new ship has to offer.”
All guests who arranged airfare through Norwegian Cruise Line will be accommodated on new flights departing on April 7.
According to the company, these passengers will also take advantage of transfers arranged by Norwegian’s teams.
Guests with independent travel are asked to contact their airlines and insurance providers to reschedule their flights.
Norwegian said that it will reimburse up to $300 per person for any airline-imposed change or cancellation fees not covered by travel insurance.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this unavoidable change may cause and appreciate your understanding and flexibility,” the company added.
Norwegian also offered guests the option to cancel the voyage for a full refund to the original form of payment.
