Mitsui Ocean Cruises has acquired a second ship from Seabourn and Carnival Corporation as the Seabourn Sojourn has been sold to the Japanese brand, a subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL).

Following the sale, Seabourn will charter the 458-guest, 2010-built ship back from Mitsui Ocean Cruises and continue to operate all published voyages on the Sojourn through completion of its world cruise ending May 15, 2026.

The Seabourn Sojourn will be delivered to Mitsui Ocean Cruises after the charter period and upon handover, the ship will be deployed by its new owners in a market that is “not competitive with Seabourn,” according to a statement. She will join the Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Nippon Maru in the Mitsui fleet.

“With this transition, Seabourn will have one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the business, perfectly suited to offer the private yacht-like experience that makes us one of the world’s most popular choices in ultra-luxury cruising”, said Mark Tamis, president, Seabourn. “Our award-winning ocean ships combined with our two recently launched expedition ships give us the right mix to serve these important categories in the ultra-luxury travel market while providing our guests with special Seabourn moments in over 500 destinations on seven continents.”

It’s the second ship acquired from Seabourn for Mitsui, who bought the former Seabourn Odyssey, a sister to the Sojourn, and welcomed that ship into its fleet in late 2024 as the Mitsui Ocean Fuji,

“We launched Mitsui Ocean FujiI in December 2024 and are very pleased with the guest reaction to the ship and onboard product,” said Tsunemichi Mukai, president of Mitsui Ocean Cruises.

“The ship’s spacious suites, delicious food and exciting entertainment are receiving very positive reviews. While all new cruise ships take a little time to settle in, the experience on Mitsui Ocean Fuji is continuously improving, and we are now extremely confident these two ships are the most suitable vessels to expand our cruise business and offer ‘FUNATABI – Beautiful encounters with Japan,’ in a way only Mitsui Ocean Cruises can offer.”

Guests and their travel advisors with bookings impacted after May 15, 2026, will receive a message from Seabourn with details on changes or rebooking options.

“We are proud that after 16 years in the fleet, Seabourn Sojourn will continue her journeys with Mitsui Ocean Cruises. In the coming year, we will find special ways to celebrate Sojourn’s legacy with guests and crew,” Tamis said.
