TUI has announced that shortly before its 10th birthday, the Mein Schiff 4 received a comprehensive facelift: from Feb. 10 to 23, 2025 as the ship was drydocked in Dubai to improve its efficiency and sustainability.
TUI said in a press release that during the 14-day stay in the shipyard, renovations were carried out in the ship’s public areas.
A total of 9,000 square meters of carpet were replaced in the stairwells, the main restaurant Atlantik, the Schaubar and in other places. The flooring in the buffet restaurant Anckelmannsplatz was also replaced.
According to the company, interior areas and outside decks were also renovated. The 25-meter pool and the jacuzzis were sanded down and repainted, and the sauna area now includes a modernized steam sauna.
Technical improvements were also implemented, including the replacement of the old propellers with hydrodynamically optimized models that reduce water resistance.
Further measures were taken to promise fuel savings of 4 to 7 percent, including the added rotary end cap that channels the propeller outflow and prevents braking turbulence in the water.
Old paint from the underwater hull was removed and four new layers, a total of 12,960 liters of paint, were applied.
On Feb. 24, the Mein Schiff 4 set off from Dubai on its first voyage with guests after the shipyard stay.
