Meyer Turku announced a new project as part of its NEcOLEAP green transition, aimed at protecting and enhancing biodiversity at its shipyard.

According to a company’s Facebook update, the project, running through the end of 2025, focuses on understanding the environmental impact of the shipyard, improving natural areas and developing sustainable solutions for the future.

“The goal is to gather all environmental studies conducted in nearby areas, fill in any gaps and create a clear picture of the current status of biodiversity at the shipyard. This helps us improve our environmental efforts in the long run,” said Jonas Martin, project manager.

The program will involve several key actions:

• Assessing the current state of biodiversity in the shipyard and surrounding waters
• Studying how the company’s operations impact nature and finding ways to reduce negative effects
• Restoring and maintaining high nature value areas
• Developing nature-based solutions for managing surface runoff water
• Calculating the company’s nature footprint to measure its impact and set goals for the future
