The Carnival Sunshine recently welcomed guests back with a series of enhancements to its public areas and staterooms.

After undergoing a drydock in Europe, the ship returned to North America earlier this month for a year-round operation in Norfolk.

According to Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald, the vessel underwent updates to various public areas and cabins.

All of the open decks were updated with a new synthetic floor, while all guest staterooms received new motion lights.

The 1996-built ship also saw a complete refurbishment of its water park, ropes course, mini golf and jogging track.

The Sunshine Casino was upgraded as well and now includes a new host desk on the ship’s promenade deck, while the gym received new cardio machines.

“This, along with all the usual maintenance and upkeep of a drydock means the Carnival Sunshine looks absolutely fabulous,” Heald said in a social media post.

After completing a homeporting operation in Charleston in January, the 3,000-guest ship sailed to France for a drydock at the Chantier Naval de Marseille.

A few weeks later, the Sunshine returned to North America with no guests onboard to kick off Carnival’s new year-round deployment in Norfolk.

Sailing from its new homeport in Virginia, the ship now offers six- and eight-night cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

The deployment features visits to various destinations, such as Princess Cays, Grand Turk, Puerto Plata, Half Moon Cay and San Juan.

In addition to the Carnival Sunshine, the Carnival Spirit is also undergoing a drydock at the Chantier Naval de Marseille.

After completing its winter program in Mobile, the ship sailed to Europe earlier this month for a month-long shipyard stay.

The 2001-built vessel is scheduled to welcome guests back on Mar. 16, 2025, kicking off a trans-Atlantic crossing in Barcelona.
