The Vasco da Gama arrived at the Brazilian port of Paranaguá as part of a world cruise that set sail from Greece in late 2024.
According to the Paraná State Government, the ship docked on February 18, 2025, with 708 guests and 500 crew members onboard.
The visit of the Niko Cruises vessel was the ninth hosted by Paranaguá during the 2024-25 season, local authorities added.
“The Port of Paranaguá continues to receive cruise ships, providing safe, efficient and agile operations at the pier,” said Gabriel Vieira, operations director of Portos do Paraná.
The next cruise ship scheduled to dock at Paranaguá is the Scenic Eclipse, which is set to arrive in March.
“Paraná is consolidating its position as a destination for foreign tourists arriving via cruise ships,” said the Secretary of Tourism of Paraná, Márcio Nunes.
“Passengers arrive at our coast with the option of participating in a range of activities and tours that explore unique landscapes, such as Ilha do Mel,” he added.
According to Brazil’s government data, the number of foreigners arriving at the Port of Paranaguá grew by 60 percent in 2024, with 9,562 tourists arriving by sea.
In addition to the Paraná State port, the Vasco da Gama is also scheduled to visit other destinations in Brazil, including Santos, Rio de Janeiro, São Francisco do Sul, Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza.
After departing from Heraklion in November, the ship is offering a 149-night world cruise that features visits to 65 destinations in 26 countries.
Before welcoming the Vasco da Gama, Paranaguá hosted the MSC Armonia for eight visits during the 2024-25 season.
Between mid-December and late January, the MSC Cruises ship offered a series of seven-night cruises to Argentina and Uruguay departing from the port.
According to local authorities, the operation brought nearly 20,000 people to Paranaguá, including guests and crew.
